“This bell tower on the island of Folegandros sits adjacent to a church that is near the top of a high promontory above the town. It is only reached by a long switchback footpath. You have to be humbled by the dedication of those who built it–wanting to make it as close to heaven as possible. The lighting, close to sunset, was irresistible. I was able to get this perspective by climbing up onto a wall of the church, which is tucked against the steep incline. From there, you could look through the bell tower and see the sea beyond. The lighting here is very complex, with all the reflected light, especially on the glowing interior. It took careful dissecting to work out the transitions from blue to purple to light orange. But I couldn’t begin to capture the richness of actually being there.” -Peter Ferber
